Three different type of Billfish Flies
Aki Tube Flies
The Aki tube fly range are Sigler-type flies, with natural materials and flash over our synthetic yak hair, giving bulk to the fly but lighter to cast when wet than many of the more traditional flies of this type.
Tabua Tube Flies
The Tabua tube flies are a blend of synthetic yak, flash and natural saddle hackles which again allows for a fishy profile, yet are easily castable. The sheath of synthetic hair over the fly protects the more fragile natural materials beneath.
Cabo Tube Flies
The Cabo tube flies are the ones we started with, many years ago. They catch just as many fish now as they did then, and are perhaps our toughest flies. No frills with these, just synthetic yak hair and flash! Lightweight, easy to cast and they offer a big profile to the fish.
All our Billfish tube flies are meticulously hand-crafted in our Madeira studio, using only the very finest materials and components we can source.
The tubes for our Billfish tube flies are straight hard nylon tubing set up for a two-hook rigging. The tubes have an inner diameter of 3mm, allowing you to change flies even when using a bite-leader. The 3mm inner slips over the Bimini with no problems. Hook-holder tubing at the rear of the fly allows for a crimp or hook eye to be secured, but also allows for two flies to be joined together.
The seven-inch flies are fitted with 16mm 3D holo silver eyes while our nine-inch have 20mm eyes. These are flexible eyes which will not snag on the fishes bill, allowing a great hook-up rate. The eyes are epoxied in place, adding to the overall durability of our Billfish Flies.
We sell many of these to clients specifically targeting Sailfish, but other Billfish love this colour combo too! Clients fly-fishing for sharks often have these colours as their 'go-to-'fly.
The pink/white is a great sight-casting fly! There's no better way to fish, and this high-visibility fly means you'll know exactly where your fly is at any time!
